In a recent development from Cairo, airstrikes conducted by Israel on Aleppo in northern Syria have resulted in 38 fatalities, including five Hezbollah members, as reported by security sources. The Syrian defense ministry confirmed the occurrence of civilian and military casualties due to the attacks, which took place around 1:45 a.m. local time.

The ministry's statement highlighted simultaneous drone attacks from Idlib and western rural Aleppo, attributed to "terrorist org

anizations" targeting the civilian population. However, it did not provide a specific casualty count or distinguish between the deaths caused by Israeli airstrikes and those by militant group attacks.

The statement further noted that the aggression led to both loss of life and material damage. The Israeli military has not issued a comment on the matter.

This incident follows an intensification of Israeli strikes targeting alleged Iranian-backed militia bases in Syria, a response to an attack by Hamas on October 7. Israel's actions in Syria have been ongoing for years, coinciding with Iran's increased support for President Bashar al-Assad since the civil war's inception in 2011. The region has seen significant influence from Iran-aligned fighters, including Hezbollah, across various parts of Syria and near the capital.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has seen an uptick in cross-border exchanges of fire since the recent Gaza war, marking the most significant escalation since their 2006 conflict.
