CM Punjab approves Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card for farmers

The first female Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has endorsed the 'Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card' to assist farmers in the province, according to ARY News.

Chairing a meeting on agricultural reforms, CM Maryam Nawaz approved the 'Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card', aiming to provide various subsidies to farmers. Under this program, 500,000 small farmers in Punjab can access loans totaling Rs 150 billion within a year, with each farmer eligible for a loan of Rs 30,000 per acr

e of agricultural land.

During the session, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the establishment of model agriculture centers in every district, in collaboration with the private sector, to ensure farmers receive genuine fertilizers and medicines.

Additionally, the Agriculture Department was instructed to compile comprehensive data on crop production and demand. The meeting endorsed the establishment of a state-of-the-art center of excellence for research and development on cotton, wheat, and rice crops.

To streamline administrative affairs, the participants agreed to oversee operations through a board and connect the research center with regional universities. Plans were also made to construct a research development center at a cost of Rs 2 billion in Agricultural University Faisalabad, with assistance from China.

Further measures include outfitting the Agricultural Extension Wing with modern technology, hiring 500 agricultural graduates, reviewing the restructuring of the Punjab Seed Corporation and the Punjab Agricultural Research Board, and proposing legislation to prevent the conversion of agricultural land for residential purposes.
