ISLAMABAD: The PTI has been given a 20-day deadline by the Pakistani Election Commission to hold intra-party elections.

The ECP stated in its ruling on the PTI's reserved September 13 intra-party election that the bat will continue to be the party's election symbol.

The PTI's intra-party elections have drawn attention from the election commission. On June 8 of last year, the PTI presented the details of its party elections.

The electoral body declared

, "The PTI has failed to hold transparent intra-party elections."

The decision was made public by an ECP panel led by commission member Nisar Durrani.

Prior to this, the PTI had requested the Election Commission to promptly provide a comprehensive written order pertaining to the intra-party elections and the distribution of poll symbols.

The PTI claimed in a previous application that the 2019 constitution, as revised through June 8, 2022, duly provided the basis for the intra-party elections to be held on June 9, 2022.

In an interview with the media, PTI attorney Barrister Gohar expressed sadness for the election commission's ruling and claimed the ECP was incapable of delivering justice.

The PTI counsel stated, "The election commission stated that documents were incomplete rather than saying that the party election was not conducted in accordance with the constitution."

"The election symbol for the party will still be the bat. After consulting, we will contest the election commission's decision in a suitable forum," he continued.
