Former Prime Minister and prominent figure of the People’s Party, Yousaf Raza Gillani, secured an uncontested victory as the Chairman of the Senate in Islamabad.

Similarly, Syedal Khan Nasir of the PML-N was returned unopposed as the candidate for Deputy Chairman of the Senate in the same election.

Notably, there were no opposing candidates from the opposition parties against Yousaf Raza Gillani and Nasir, who were the ruling alliance’s nominees for the Senate&

#39;s presiding positions.

Earlier in the day, 43 newly elected Senators took their oath of office at the Parliament House in Islamabad. The oath was administered by Presiding Officer Senator Ishaq Dar.

Among those who took the oath were Yousaf Raza Gilani, Ahad Cheema, Anwaarul Haq, Hamid Khan, Mohsin Naqvi, Anousha Rehman, Ishaq Dar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Allama Nasir Abbas, and other notable personalities.

However, during the session with Senator Ishaq Dar presiding, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) initiated a protest, demanding the adjournment of the house until the election of senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Senator Ali Zafar of the PTI, speaking on the floor, insisted on deferring the election, citing its unconstitutionality until the house is complete. He also criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan for its controversial decisions.

In response to the opposition's objections, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar emphasized that no unconstitutional actions were taking place and that the house was complete for all functional purposes. He also accused the PTI of obstructing the election of lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leading to the postponement of polls by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
