In Lahore, the Lahore High Court announced on Tuesday the invalidation of the victory notification for the PML-N Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-81, Gujranwala, following a plea from the rival PTI candidate.

Justice Shahid Karim of the high court granted the petition filed by PTI candidate Bilal Ijaz against the decision of the election commission.

The bench raised questions regarding how the election commission could overlook the decision of the Supreme Cour

t, questioning whether neglecting the apex court's verdict constituted contempt of court. Additionally, the court queried how the election commission could intervene after the completion of the election process.

In his petition, PTI candidate Bilal Ijaz asserted that he emerged victorious in the February 8 election with a lead of over 7,000 votes. However, during the recount, PML-N candidate Azhar Qayyum Nahra was declared the winner with a margin of 3,100 votes.

Bilal Ijaz argued that over 10,000 of his votes were disregarded during the recount. He further contended that the election commission could not order a recount after the tribunal's constitution.

Consequently, he appealed to the court to declare the election commission's recounting order null and void.
